The Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the greatest museums in the world in terms of its size and the quality and encyclopedic scope of its collections.

The Met's vast holdings include nearly three million works of art -- several hundred thousand of which are on view -- spanning more than 5,000 years of world culture from prehistory to the present. The collections are divided into 17 departments and fill more than 220 galleries. Aside from the permanent collection, it has constantly changing exhibits.
