Walking tour of the West Village and the Meatpacking District
ending at the Nomadic Museum

Shunning street grids, societal conventions and commercial developers for centuries, the West Village proudly displays its hard-won heritage. We lead you to some of the neighborhood's most enchanting sites, revealing extraordinary histories, architectural delights and sweet secrets unknown even to many Village residents. Take genteel Commerce Street, with its restored Federal-style residences and historic Cherry Lane Theater. Down the block at #86 Bedford, Chumley's Ale House-discreetly plied its boozy trade during the 1920s Prohibition era.

From Greenwich Village we walk west to the Meatpacking district. Not so long ago the area was populated by exactly what you think, meatpacking plants. Today there is still plenty of history dating back even before the meatpackers, and the area has been transformed to one of the trendiest areas of NYC. The contrasts are astounding.

Your tour ends at Pier 54 and 13th Street and the temporary home to the Nomadic Museum. Your guide will point out some fun things to do in the area after you visit the museum. Stop by Chelsea Market, full of wonderful food shops or stop in at a local art gallery.

The tour is two hours and meets at the corner of Christopher Street and 7th Avenue and operates every Saturday form March 19th to June 4th. The cost is $29.00 per person. (admission to the museum is additional)
