Discover how the Lower East Side evolved as it welcomed wave after wave of immigrants, including the Irish, Germans, Eastern Europeans, Italians, Chinese and Latin Americans. Learn about life in the tenements in the late 19th and early 20th century. You will see what people endured to be in America and how they lived, worked and made the best of what they had. All of the cultures that passed through the Lower East Side left their mark, especially when it comes to food. You will taste kosher pickles, bialys, empanadas, dumplings and knishes.

History and Foods of Chinatown (2 hours) $85 per person based on two guests. Discounts for more guests.

On your tour through Chinatown, you will witness personal stories, learn about legends, and indulge in anecdotes that date as far back as the 17th Century when the Dutch settled New York. Learn about the Chinatown of today and what it was in the past. See the marks of the Dutch, Irish, Italians and Jewish settlers in the area and then how Chinatown began to grow. Some sites to note: The Benjamin Ralph Kim Lau Memorial Arch, Columbus Park, The Bowery, Canal Street, 32 Mott Street (the oldest Chinatown store), The Confucius Statue, and The Five Points. Along the way stop and taste Dim Sum, Chinese tea, Chinese pastries and ice cream.

 


What is a group tour?

A group tour is made up of different people who signed up for it. It begins and ends at a specific time and you are part of the group. The guide is there for the entire group. Maximum group size is 16 people.

What is a private tour?
It is what it sounds like. When you book a private tour for you and tour traveling companion(s), you are the only ones on the tour (plus the guide, of course). You can book the tour to fit around your schedule, and you have the freedom to move at a pace you feel comfortable. If you want to linger a little longer it is your choice. What is included in my walking tour?
All tours include food tastings, a ½ liter of water per person, a NYC licensed tour guide, a map of the neighborhood and a list of eateries visited, plus a few others.
