Things to do
In New York City.
Take your pick—New
York has it all. You could live in New York your whole life
and not run out of things to do. That’s what makes this city so great—and
so challenging to explore. And that’s where Beyond Times
Square comes in. We can help you add your favorite activities
to any of our existing programs or design a custom program
just for you. Whether you have a week or a weekend, we can
tailor an itinerary around your interests. Here are just a
few samples of the many customized programs we can put together
for you. And if you have something else in mind, let us know
and we’ll create a customized program for you.
Art
New Yorkers are never shy about expressing themselves—and
art serves as a great forum for doing so. Home to some of the
greatest museums, New York City is a showcase of artistic talents
from around the world. From the Museum of Modern Art to the
Guggenheim to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, you will run
short of time long before you run out of museums in New York.
Then there is the latest art featured in the galleries of
SoHo and Chelsea or discover an entire community of up-and-coming
artists; we can show you the way. Contact us at info@btsq.com
Architecture
New
York is an architectural wonderland. Not just for its soaring
skyscrapers, but for four centuries worth of development. You’ll
see small homes from the 1800’s that are dwarfed by concrete
giants. It’s not unusual to find several architectural
styles on one street: Federal, Art Deco and Greek Revival,
to name just a few. Even the parks represent incredible feats
of urban planning. You can learn firsthand how New Yorkers
lived in the past (we recommend a trip to the Tenement Museum
on the Lower East Side) and how the city is shaping its future.

Neighborhood/History
There’s no better reflection of New York’s history
and cultural diversity than its multitude of neighborhoods.
From Little Italy to Chinatown to Spanish Harlem, New York
City is the ultimate melting pot. More than anything else,
it is the people of New York who set this great city apart.
If you’d like to see the everyday life of any particular
ethnic group, let us know and we can arrange a walking tour
(or private car or bicycle trip) to any of the city’s
neighborhoods in Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens and
Staten Island. Contact us at info@btsq.com
Literary
Did you know Edgar Allan Poe lived in the Bronx and O’Henry
frequented a bar on Irving Place in Manhattan? Some of the
greatest writers have made New York their home for all or part
of their lives. It’s understandable with all of the city’s
opportunities for inspiration and observation. We can arrange
for you to visit places that were home to famous writers, including
the landmark Chelsea Hotel. Also for the literary set, the
New York Public Library on 40th and 5th Avenue has more than
75 miles of shelves. Contact us at info@btsq.com
Nature/Bird watching
New
York City may be a concrete jungle, but there’s also
a lot of greenery. For starters, there’s Central Park,
Prospect Park, waterfront parks, the Bronx Zoo and Botanical
Gardens. Any of these places can be included in your trip.
For birders, Fall and Spring are great times to see the migratory
birds that travel through Central Park. Watch for birds perched
on building ledges.
Believe it or not, but you can go scavenging
for edible plants in Central Park (great for children) or
relax at an
outdoor sculpture garden. Just let us know and we’ll
show you how to get back to nature right in the heart of the
city. Contact

Family Activities
Growing up in the shadow of New York, I thought everything
was a family activity. My father, a master of English literature,
loves the theater and my mother is a baseball fan (she still
cheers for the BROOKLYN Dodgers). New York is a great place
for families and almost anything the city offers can be tailored
accordingly. There are children’s museums, zoos (with
polar bears) and parks (with great nature walks). Of course,
these are just some of the activities you can share with your
kids (or grandchildren) in New York. If there is something
special you’d like to do, like rediscover your family’s
heritage or visit the birthplace of relatives, we can arrange
a special program just for you and yours. Contact us at info@btsq.com
Food and Drink
New York serves up food from almost every country on earth.
From Italian to Jamaican, French to Malaysian, Norwegian to
Peruvian, it’s all right here. You won’t find a
more delicious way to sample an ethnic group’s culture
and history. Our walking programs let you learn by tasting.
Every neighborhood has its own distinctive foods. Whether you
want to dine at a fine restaurant or enjoy a wine tasting led
by a professional, we can arrange it for you.
History is alive and well at the watering holes of New York.
An evening bar run can take you back in time to the haunts
of famous writers, sports figures and entertainers. Contact

Music
Whether you want to visit the great music halls of Lincoln
Center or Carnegie Hall, attend a larger than life Broadway
musical or an intimate jazz club, music takes center stage
in New York.
The jazz scene spans the entire city. (We prefer a small jazz
concert held in Harlem on weekends. Last time we went, there
were only 30 people and it felt like the entire performance
was just for us.) Head to Queens to see the home of the King
of Jazz—Louis Armstrong, whose former residence is now
a museum. For the hottest sounds in contemporary music, visit
the clubs downtown. Or go uptown for the sounds of gospel,
including a gospel brunch. Tell us your favorite sounds and
we’ll show you the music you want to hear. Contact us

Just the Two of You
Enjoy a stroll through Central Park and a romantic picnic lunch.
Dine at a fine restaurant, where you can have a quiet table
in your own private corner. Or stay at a cozy bed and breakfast
or intimate hotel where everything revolves around the two
of you. New York is the perfect setting to rekindle your romance.
Whether it’s a walk down a quiet city block lined with
brownstones or a horse-drawn carriage ride around Central Park,
you’ll have plenty of opportunities to rediscover each
other. And if you’d like a few romantic suggestions,
we can help with that, too. Contact us at info@btsq.com
Fashion
New York is one of the great fashion capitals of the world.
Explore the Garment District—or Fashion Center, as it
is now called. Stroll along the “Fashion Walk of Fame” on
Seventh Avenue, where the names of legendary designers and
their stories are etched into plaques on the sidewalks. The
showrooms of today’s leading designers fill the buildings
along Seventh as New York serves as an inspiration to their
craft and the center of their business. Along these streets,
you can sense the history of the garment industry--once one
of the city’s largest employers.
You can meet designers who are just starting out, or those
who have come to understand the meaning of, “if you can
make it here, you can make it anywhere.” You may want
to plan your trip around the industry’s big fashion event--“Seventh
on Sixth” held in February. Many of the event are for
the industry, but there of plenty of buzz created in the city
when it’s in town. Contact us at info@btsq.com
Shopping
Where
do you begin? Fifth or Madison? Tiffany’s or Bergdorf
Goodman The choices for shopping in New York are endless. If
you’re looking to add to your wardrobe, we can arrange
for you to meet a fashion consultant who can point you in the
right direction and point out what looks best on you. For some
of the hippest fashion we can take you to the boutiques in
the East Village and on the Lower East Side.
For kids Toy Tokyo in the east village is a must. And if your
preference is antiques, we can introduce you to an expert who
can share some of the
great spots in the city. Whatever it is you’re looking
for, if it’s not in New York, you don’t need it.

Broadway and Beyond
There’s nothing like a Broadway show. When the cast takes
their final bow and the audience comes to its feet, it’s
enough to give you goosebumps. But Broadway is just the beginning.
You can enjoy an Off-Broadway performance in one of the more
intimate theaters located throughout the five boroughs. If
you prefer concerts or dance, you can attend an event at one
of the many music halls. You can even enjoy music on a barge
under the Brooklyn Bridge. Let us know and we’ll arrange
the tickets. Contact us at info@btsq.com
Spa/Wellness
After a day of walking or shopping or sailing, nothing could
be better than relaxing at a spa. Treat yourself to a massage
or enjoy a day of beauty before your night on the town. Whether
you prefer one of the upscale spas located in the heart of
Manhattan, or one in the tranquility of the Catskills or
the Hamptons, we can take care of it for you. If you’d
like to keep up with your daily workout, many of the hotels
have
gyms for their guests. We can even set up a session with
a personal trainer for you. Contact us at info@btsq.com
Sporting events
Name your team: the Yankees or Mets; the Rangers, Knicks
or Nets; the Giants or Jets. If there’s a game you’re
looking for, we can get you the tickets. Maybe your home team
is playing one of ours and you want to be in on the action.
Or perhaps you’d like to visit Monument Park in Yankee
Stadium or take a behind the scenes tour of Madison Square
Garden. Just let us know and put on your game face. Contact
us at info@btsq.com
Active/Adventure
You can kayak on the Hudson River, bike around Central Park,
or hike the northern tip of Manhattan in its last natural
forest. You can take a deep-sea fishing boat out of Sheepshead
Bay
in Brooklyn. Enjoy beautiful beaches that stretch from Coney
Island all the way out to Montauk, Long Island. Or cruise
New York harbor on a tugboat or sailboat. You might never
expect
all these activities (and more) to be right here in New York,
but they are ready and waiting for you. You can add any of
these activities to a planned trip—or make it the focus
of one. Contact us at info@btsq.com
Beyond New York City
Even New Yorkers need to get out of the city every now and
then. And when they do, they head for the surrounding areas,
which are spectacular. Besides the breathtaking scenery, you’ll
find historic places and beautiful settings for outdoor activities.
Experience the quiet life of Shelter Island or the mountain
region of the Catskills.
Get the feel of New England on a visit to some of the small
villages of Connecticut. You can add a day, or a few days,
onto your New York trip and stay at a quaint bed and breakfast,
or one of many historic and luxurious properties. Contact us
