ERIC K. WASHINGTON – History and Architecture,
Neighborhoods of New York
Literally, Eric wrote the book. He is the author of Manhattanville:
Old Heart of West Harlem, which is a tribute to the area and

at the City College of New York. Eric has a long list of credentials,

Neighborhoods of New York
Michelle first trained as an archaeologist before turning to
the study of art history, architecture, and New York City history.
Based on her abundant research, Michelle weaves together the
past and present of Manhattan's many neighborhoods through
social history and architectural detail. Her own excitement
for the past brings it alive for guests. Michelle holds undergraduate
and advanced degrees from Columbia University, where she has
also taught.
JAMES NEVIUS – History and Architecture, Neighborhoods
of New York
A ninth generation New Yorker going back to the first Dutch
settlers, James began his study of New York with research into
his family. His knowledge of New York history is astounding
and he enjoys sharing it. Previously, James studied and taught
creative and expository writing at NYU. Today, in addition
to writing and leading walking tours, he is completing his
first novel, set in New Amsterdam (the city’s name when
it was settled by the Dutch) in the 17th Century.
SUSAN KATZ – Lower Manhattan and Central Park
Susan has lived in and around Manhattan for most of her life.
She began attending Broadway shows when she was in the first
grade. By her teen years she was playing tour guide for friends
and family from out of town. Her exuberance and dedication
make her a great New York guide. She mostly enjoys showing
guests NYC on foot and via subway to bring you as close as
possible to NYC life. In the past Susan has led group tours
for Elderhostel, Grayline and the 92nd Street Y.
Marc Perven - Ethnic Enclaves, cultures and cuisines of Queens
Marc is a skilled globetrotter with a knack for meeting people. His passionate pursuit of travel began as a child as a son of airline employees. He has visited Belize, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, England, Egypt, Holland, Israel, Italy, Scotland, South Africa and traveled throughout the United States. The rest of the world had emigrated to within a few short subway stops from his current residence in Forest Hills. He is the first urban adventurer with an emphasis on the undiscovered borough of Queens, of which he is a life long resident.
